MAIDEN VOYAGE: CALCUTTA INTERNATIONAL CULT FILM FESTIVAL 2017

“There is no end. There is no beginning. There is only the infinite passion of life.” – Federico Fellini

The vision of Calcutta International Cult Film Festival (CICFF) is the celebration of life. We’re shaping a world with media and technology, to improve lives, move communities forward and to inspire each of us to reach our full potential. To celebrate the liberation and freedom of visual storytelling CICFF is going to organize its first monthly screening with a small press conference on February 18th, 2017 at Kolkata Press Club. The sole purpose of the festival is to develop a film culture that inspires and brings together cross-cultural innovations that enrich people’s lives with entertainment: and services that inform, educate and entertain. The goals of the festival are to introduce more people to art house cinema and to discover new artists and audiences.

“We believe that cinema has the power to promote the fundamental principles of humanism.” – CICFF

CICFF is dedicated to providing support to independent film-makers through reviewing, judging, marketing, and distribution networking. We overcome the obstacles that potentially hinder the artist’s ability to create. CICFF will unveil its complete line-up on Saturday, February 18th at a special Press Conference along with a screening program.

This is the first of a series of monthly events that CICFF is promoting before our annual gala for the Golden Fox Awards 2017, to link the award winning projects to the film community and film industry. Please join us on February 18th at 1:30 pm for the announcement of our spectacular 2017 line-up and screening of our international film selections at the venue below:

CICFF: A Showcase of Directorial Talent

monthly online film festival - CICFF

We think you will agree that the city of Kolkata fascinates you. Then we are sure that the Kolkata

International Cult Film Festival will make you spellbound and will leave you asking for more. Though we

have been around as a cult film festival for just a wee bit of time yet we have decided to walk tall with

grit and determination. We pledge to move heaven and earth just to flaunt your skills with the camera

and give you a very good start. Film festivals are the ultimate destination of a fledgling film director. For

movie buffs who live on a diet made of movies and consider themselves to be the future of cinema

register with us as an online participant. We wont deny that we intend to supply a never ending series

of cult movie every month. A cult film is a cult film. Like it or not it touches the heart and souls of

thousands of movie buffs. So why look anywhere else when you get to churn a fine cult movie breaking

all borders. At our festival we invite cult movies from thousands of miles east, west, north and south of

Kolkata. We will mete out our decisions and award online movie entries every month.

Frustration and diappointment is the part and parcel of the life of movie directors but they will have an

honest review of their work at our festival. If you are a budding director and want to make it big in the

film world it is a good idea to kickstart your career with us at our festival. Sometimes kind words and a

positive attitude can work wonders to give a boost to your confidence and at the cult festival we will be

your sounding board. If you are creative and share a love for making films CICFF is the place to be. At

Calcutta International Cult Film Festival, CICFF( which arranges a monthly online film festival) we are

completely dedicated to the discovering of new talents from all over the globe under the category of

cult movies and art house films.

Just as a lyrical poet paid tribute to a small hidden flower under the creek we pick up dreams from the

far corners of the world and give them a new identity of that of independent film makers. In the film

fraternity where you just cannot do without connections the grapevine has it that the this is one job

option which is a tough nut to crack. There is no dearth of film festivals on earth and if you eye a slot in

the world’s most coveted screenings in the more reputed ones you will possibly be ending up in a soup.

Small independent movie directors on a shoe string budget for obvious reasons cannot compete in a star

studded film festival. So if you are wise enough you would take small steps at a time and shift your

attention to film festivals which have been critically acclaimed minus the glizy glamour.

The audience at our annual film festival (CICFF)to be held at Kolkata in October in 2017 is one to die for

because the viewers of your film will generally consist of film critics of international stature, film

producers, established directors, film distribution representatives as well as movie buffs. In this digital

age when practically everything is being bought and sold online why not “sell” movies online. Our

online contest is meant to be participated by anyone who is in love with movies and film direction. Your

movies will be enjoyed by eminent judges and a very much live and erudite crowd. You can also test

your writing skills in our screenplay or writing contest which will also be held at the same venue of

Calcutta International Cult Film Festival.

If you have some half baked film ideas don’t wait for ages and make unnecessary delays. Submit that

registration form and you might be that one lucky destiny’s child.

CICCF: Are You Ready to Sell Your Idea

International Film Market

All films have a story to tell and it is this story telling that the director does with elan. Just like any other form of art a film is a work of art too and it is so simply in a audio visual medium. One has to appreciate the ideas which the director wants to put across and also fathom the emotions which drive the director to make such kind of a film. Movies in the commercial form or the art film form can indeed educate us and make us a better person. Sometimes, movies delve into something deeper; they strike a philosophical chord within the society and the society sits up and takes notice that a new film has arrived.

The most important moment for a film is perhaps the screening at a film festival almost it being like a baby born and receiving the care and attention of the doctors and nurses. Often festivals and film markets are thought to be in the same strain. But in reality it is not so. This might confuse some directors and puzzle the man on the street but we will have you know that a festival and film market is not the same idea. It is a case in point that the Cannes Film Festival and the Berlin Film Festival is an amalgamation of film festival and international film market. It is so because in these film festivals directors screen their movies and at the same time do networking for the purpose of highlighting their film in the business circle at the international film market. At these global film markets there is scope to carry on trade concerning the films and its distribution rights in the media. In a film market, participation is restricted to only businessmen in the industry and artists seldom turn up at any International film markets. There can be different kinds of business centered around a movie where an Italian company might want to buy the broadcasting rights of a movie for the purpose of telecasting it in Italy. At the same time there might be business people at the market who would prefer to buy all the media rights starting from television and other kinds of digital media.

Film directors often attend the film markets though commerce is the underlined intention in these kind of events. Eminent and sometimes cub directors puts in their own little research work in at these gatherings so that they have a better perception of the distribution system. It will be wrong to say that there is the presence of only distributers in these gatherings. On the contrary there is a vast stream of adept and adroit people who step into these events like that of the press people and the attorneys, festival directors, government representatives and also writers.

It is usually seen how the international film festivals have its culmination in the international film markets. This is in fact is a collaboration within the tinsel town and the whole film fraternity gains due to this  collaboration. At this point one has to make a mention of the American Film Market which came into existence in the year 1981. One of the most influencing events in the world, America sees the  coming together under one roof of the who’s who of Hollywood at the American Film Market. It has seen the closure of deals worth 1 billion dollars just in the opening 8 days. Even the Calcutta International Cult Film Festival is one of a kind. It is a must attend event for those who want to make a mark in Indian as well as world cinema. Perhaps, it is the best place to learn about the social and market issues of cinema.
